Mega Awareness Camp and Weavers Orientation Program

       The Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu hosted a successful Mega Awareness Camp and Weavers Orientation Program today at Village Bhoond, Basohli, in Kathua district. The event was led by Mr. Suraj Prakash Rukwal, Director Handicrafts and Handloom, and witnessed an impressive turnout
The primary objective of the event was to generate awareness among new weavers about the various schemes and benefits offered by the Department. Through informative sessions, the weavers were educated on how they can avail these opportunities for their personal and professional growth.
During the program, the Director, H&H, distributed  charkhas to deserving weavers in the region. This initiative underscores the Department’s commitment to providing essential tools and resources to support the weavers’ craft.

Accompanying Mr. Rukwal were other key officials, including the Joint Director Handloom and AD Handloom & Handicrafts, Kathua, all of whom played a vital role in making the event a success.


Mr. Suraj Parkash Rukwal, Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, spearheaded a transformative 1-month training programme in Bamboo furniture making at the Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Sallan, Kathua, on February 13, 2024. This initiative, sponsored by the Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts Jammu and organised by North East Cane Bamboo Development Council, Assam (NECBDC), aims to empower 25 artisans from Kathua district with essential skills in Bamboo craftsmanship.The event also included an insightful inspection of the Common Facility Centre, poised to emerge as a Centre of Excellence in Bamboo Craft in near future. In addition to the inspection, the delegation also visited the sale outlet of Handloom and handicrafts in Hiranagar, Kathua, underlining the importance of promoting and showcasing locally made products.During the event, Director Handloom & Handicrafts felicitated numerous artisans by presenting them with bamboo tool kits. He also shed light on various departmental schemes, aiming to raise awareness and provide support to artisans. The Department's persistent efforts have been instrumental in establishing the Common Facility Centre for Bamboo at Sallan and the CFC for Agarbati at Bilawar. Both facilities are nearing completion and are set to be operational soon, promising a significant boost to the handicraft sector in the district.

Visit of Union MoS for Railways and Textiles Smt. Darshana Jardosh

Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, Government of India, Smt. Darshana Jardosh reviews the functioning of Handlooms and Handicrafts Department, Jammu and met with Weavers and Artisans of the District Kathua.  She emphasizes focus on value addition, training of artisans, market linkage, e-commerce platforms. She also distributed Handloom Weaver cards/Handicrafts Artisans cards to the weavers and artisans. During the occasion she also distributed registrations certificate to the Cooperative Societies. Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu Dr. Vikas Gupta, Development Officer Textile, Mr. Fareed Ahmed Kohli and Assistant Director Handloom/Handicrafts Kathua along with Staff also present during the occasion.


Awareness camp on E- Services for Artisan and Weavers

In orders to createawareness among the Artisan and Weavers of District Jammu, a mega Exhibition-cum-awarenesscamp organized in newly upgradedHandicrafts showroom at Janipur, Jammu.The objective of thecamp was to aware the Artisans and Weavers working in Handicrafts & Handloomsector to avails benefits of different schemes provided by Department ofHandicrafts & Handloom, Jammu Division, through single window portaldesigned for easy accessing of services provided by different departmentsthrough a single portal. A exhibitions of Handicrafts products was alsoorganized, in which different Handicraft products  such as Phoolkari Embroidery Products, Bambooproducts, Modern Art products, Calico printed products etc.



Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu organizes District Handloom Expo in Samba Fort. Handloom Expo was inaugurated by Dr. Vikas Gupta, JKAS Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu along with Mr. Atul Sharma, JKAS Managing Director Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation and  Mr. Rakesh Dubey ADC, Samba. The theme of the Expo is "My Handloom My Pride". The Expo has been sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India New Delhi. 25 numbers of Cooperative Societies participated in the week long expo displaying wide range of their handmade products.   


GI Tag Hearing at Jammu University

The Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu under the guidance of  Principal Secretary to the Government, Industries & Commerce Department, J&K for the first time facilitated the Round Table meeting of  Artisans/Weavers of Jammu Division with the team of Geographical Indication Registration fromthe Office of Controller General of Patent, Designs and Trademarks, Govt. of India through NABARD/Human Welfare Association Varanasi at University of Jammu. Artisans/Weavers of Jammu division presented Basohli Pashmina and Rajouri Chikri wood products at the Round Table meeting. Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu guided the artisans / weavers to present their case for the G.I registration of the said products.
Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu with the help of NABARD took the initiative for Geographical Registration of Basohli Paintings, Basohli Pashmina and Rajouri Chikri Wood products and out of these, G.I registration for Basohli Painting has already been approved by the Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Government of India. The initiative is a first of its kind in the handicrafts and handloom sector in the Jammu region as hitherto no products from the region in the said sector has been G.I registered. G.I Registration and tagging of these products would help the artisans and weavers of Jammu region to earn good price for their product. This will also consolidate the position of artisans and weavers of Jammu region at export front and would ultimately improve the socio-economic status of the artisan and weaver community.


Punjab International Trade Expo2022

Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom Jammu facilitated Artisans / Weavers of Jammu division to showcase their Hand made products during the PITEX-2022 . PITEX - Punjab International Trade Expo is a premier annual trade and business exhibition. It brings together industry, trade, and business from all over the country as well as from abroad. PITEX22 held in Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar from 8-12 December 2022. 


District Handloom Expo Kathua

        Handicrafts and Handloom Department Jammu organizes District Handloom Expo2022 at Kathua to provide the suitable market platform to Artisans Weavers and Cooperatives to sell their handmade genuine products directly to the buyers.  The event is sponsored by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms Ministry of Textile Government of India under NHDP. 25 number of Cooperatives participated in the event. The main attraction in the event are variety of Basohli Pashmina Shawls, Woolen Shawls, Mufflers, Coats, Blanket, Cashmilon Shawls and other local Handloom Products. The Expo was  inaugurated by Mr Rahul Pandey, Deputy Commissioner Kathua along with Mr Tilak Raj Thappa Joint Director Handicrafts Jammu and Mr Pardeep Singh Manhas Joint Director Handloom Jammu.



J&K Pavilion at 41st India International Trade Fair IITF was Jointly inaugurated by Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu and Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir. J&K Pavilion promotes Handicrafts Handloom products under 'Vocal for Local' campaign. The JK Pavilion in the event is the perfect epitome of diversity, culture, heritage and tourism potential of the UT


8th India International MSME Start-up Expo.

Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir Sh Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 8th India International MSME Start-up Expo and Summit at New Delhi. The Expo provides a much needed platform to SMEs, startups, trade, industry, service providers to explore new opportunities, buyers-sellers meet, sharing knowledge about central/state's/UTs schemes etc. Sh. Vivek Bhardwaj(IAS),Financial Commissioner(Additional Chief Secretary), Industries & Commerce Department J&K , Sh. Vikas Gupta, JKAS, Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu besides foreign and domestic business delegates, investors, entrepreneurs and members of MSMEs were present on the occasion. Many Government bodies and organizations participated in the event. Cooperatives/Artisans/Weavers of Jammu division exhibit their hand crafted local products such as Basohli paintings, Hand Embroided Basohli Pashmina Shawls, Stoles, Dogri Suits. Shilpkari Bazaar one of the startup from Jammu who works on innovating, reviving and sustaining Handicrafts and Handlooms of Jammu region exhibit their Palm Leaf products, Binna, Chhabri  and Bamboo products. Shilpkari Bazaar was presented with the best J&K Stall Award.


Rakhi Mahotsav

Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Samba organized One Day Rakhi Mahotsav on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan in DC Office Complex, Samba. The event was inaugurated by worthy Deputy Commissioner madam. Many Artisans/ Weavers and Societies participated in the event and Sold their handmade products. 



The 3-days Hastshilp Rakhi Mela cum Awareness Camp is organized for artisans of Jammu District for exhibit/sale of their products specially prepared for the festival of Rakshabandan at Handicrafts Showroom, Janipur.  Numbers of artisans from Jammu District participating in the event for showcasing / sale of their handmade products. Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director, Handicfafts and Handloom, Jammu while addressing the participants, laid strong emphasis on boarding of Artisans on e-commerce platforms and urged the Artisans present to avail the benefits of department to get them registered on e-commerce platforms. on the occasion Appriciation Certificates, Karkhandhar Certificate of trainees and registration certificate of Cooperative Society distributed by the Chief Guest and other Dignitaries.


8th National Handloom Day celebration

Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu celebrates 8th National Handloom Day. Secretary Industries and commerce Department Ms Kusam Badyal presided as the Chief Guest over the function. Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, Managing Director JKTPO, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, Mr. Atul Sharma Managing Director Jammu and kashmir Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation, Development Officer, Mr. Fareed Ahmed Kohli, Ms Shavi Sharma, Deputy Director Training, Ms Megha Boagia, Deputy Director Planning, officials of the Weavers Service Centre, Jammu, Artisans and weavers community graced the event. On the Occasion appreciation Certificate Mementos and Weaver Pechan Card and Certificate under Samarth Scheme were distributed among various Weavers and Artisans 
District offices of Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu also celebrated Handloom Day in their respective districts and organizes Awareness Camps.


Inauguration of Pashmina Cluster Basohli

Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu Dr. Vikas Gupta inaugurated Pashmina Cluster under NHDP in Basohli in presence of ADC Basohli alogn with Development officer, Dy. Director Planning, Assistant Director Handloom Kathua, officials from the department and Weavers Service Centre . The cluster will provide weaving platform to 194 pashmina weavers in Basohli. All the weavers will be provided with raw material and marketing facilities. Genuine weavers will be provided with facilities like working shed, looms and accessories, Solar Lighting Units etc. Under Samarth Scheme skill up-gradation training will be provided to them in weaving, dying designing etc. The duration of the cluster is 3 years. If cluster successfully completed, the IA will be benefited by the incentives of Rs. 01 lacs under NHDP. Later Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu along with other officers of the department visited Karkhandar unit of Pashmina in Nagrota Pretha. This unit successfully completed its duration. The Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu inspected skill up-gradation of trainees in Pashmina Weaving and distributed diplomas to trainees for their successful completion of training course of six months. The Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu along with the officials of the department also visited Basohli Pashmina, Basohli Painting Training Centre and also visited Vishwasthali Cooperative Society of Basohli Painting in Basohli.


Inspection of construction work of upcoming Bamboo CFC at Sumb , District, Samba

To take stock of construction work of upcoming Bamboo CFC, at Sumb Samba, Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu, Dr. Vikas Gupta and Managing Director, JKSICOP Ms. Smita Sethi today conducted the spot visit and interacted with the stakeholders. BDC Chairman Mr. Ramesh Singh laid the foundation stone for the upcoming CFC. Representative of PRI's Mr. Baldev Singh, Sarpanch Panchayat Patyari, Mr. Suraj Kumar Verma Sarpanch Panchayat Baletar were also present. The upcoming CFC under one roof shall provide the infrastructural and logistic support and common working shed to 300 Bamboo artisans of the area. Development Officer(Textile) Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu, Dy. Director Planning Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu, Assistant Director Handicrafts / Handloom Samba , Project Manager, JKSICOP were also present at the occasion.


Awareness camp and Inspection of ongoing construction work of Bamboo CFCs Sallan and Bilawar in Kathua District

Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu along with Ms. Smita Sethi, MD SICOP, inspected the ongoing construction work of CFCs Bamboo in Sallan and Billawar in District Kathua. Awareness programme was also organized by the Handicrafts and Handloom department at Guest House Billawar. During the event Department registered artisans and also distributed Artisans cards among the Bamboo Artisans. DDC member Mr. Vikramjeet Singh, Development Officer Mr. Fareed Ahmed Kohli, Dy. Director Planning Ms. Megha Boagia , Assistant Director Handloom/Handicrafts Kathua, PRI members and other officials of the department were also present on the occasion. 


Inauguration of Cluster Gujroo Nagrota and Awareness Camp Under NHDP In District Kathua

The DDC Chairman inaugurated Handloom Cluster of 210 weavers at Gujroo Nagrota in Ramkot under NHDP along with Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu Development Officers local DDC member Officers from Weavers Service Centre Assistant Director Handloom Kathua and PRI. The Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu briefed about the components of Handloom Cluster and encouraged the weavers to work hard for promotion of Handloom Products. During the event Weavers cards were also distributed among the weavers.

Capacity Building Program for women artisans

Women artisans and weavers registered with the Handicrafts & Handloom Department, Jammu participated in the Capacity Building Program for Women Artisans  organized by the National Institute for Fashion Technology in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi from 23rd to 27th May 2022 at NIFT Campus, Srinagar. 


Prime Minister visited Handicrafts and Handloom stall at village Palli

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited the stall of Handicrafts and Handloom Department during his visit to village palli to participate in the celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day. During the event Hon’ble Lt Governor of UT of J&K Sh Manoj Sinha presented world renowned Basohli painting to Prime Minister.

35th Surajkund International Craft Mela -2022

Jammu & Kashmir was chosen as the Theme State for the 35th Surajkund International Crafts Mela  which is one of the most colorful traditional craft festivals of India and the world at large, which is held every year at Surajkund Mela Ground Haryana20  numbers of artisans /weavers of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu participated in the event and displayed their artistic work.

Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu organized Orientation Programme for Bamboo Artisans for attending capacity building & skill development training at NECBDC, Assam w.e.f. 22nd of March 2022.


Inter District Workshop

Inter district workshop organized by Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Jammu in collaboration with School of Designs, Jammu at District Finished Goods Store/Showroom, Janipur, Jammu under the guidance of Dr. Vikas Gupta, JKAS, Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu. The objective of the workshop was to introduce new patterns and designs with high market value. The workshop was attended by Craft Instructors of different crafts working in districts of Jammu Division.

Inauguration of Basohli Pashmina Training Centre

Department of Handloom & Handicrafts Kathua inauguratedBasohli Pashmina Training Centre in Basohli. Apart from this there was also anAwareness Camp & inauguration of Dying Training Programe under SamarthScheme by Weavers Service Centre.

        The Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu along with Development Officer(Textile), Assistant Director Handloom/Handicrafts Kathua and other officials of the Department attended the Programme. The Chief Guest of the Event was the DDC Chairperson Kathua along with BDC Chairperson Basohli, BDC member Mahanpur. Around 170 number of Artisans & Weavers participated in the Event.

During the event the DDC Chairperson inaugurated the Pashmina Training Centre along with Director Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, BDC Chairperson Basohli, BDC member Mahanpur.

During the event Weavers / Artisans Card & Financial aid cheques was also distributed to Artisans / Weavers / Cooperatives Societies under Financial Support Scheme.

Inauguration of Extension centre, Weavers Service Centre, Srinagar, office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, at Janipur, Jammu under the guidance of Principal Secretary Industries & Commerce (U.T. of J&K) Mr. Ranjan Parkash Thakur, inaugurated by the Director Handicrafts & Handloom Jammu, Dr. Vikas Gupta on 23rd of February 2022 along with Joint Director Handloom, Jammu, Dy. Director (Planning), Dy. Director (Training) and other officers and officials from Handicrafts & Handloom Department, Jammu. Further,  Mr. Tahir Ahmad Hakim, Assistant Director, Weavers Service Centre Bemina, Srinagar were also present at the event. The Demand for said Weavers Service Centre was pending since 2004 on behalf of the weaver community of Jammu. The Centre will play a pivotal role in upgrading and promoting the craft of weaving in Jammu Division by providing Technical assistance, Skill upgradation trainings through Samarth Scheme and Awareness regarding various Welfare Schemes. It will further facilitate weavers to get GI Registration and Handloom Marks. Speaking on the event Dr. Vikas Gaupta, Director Handicrafts & Handloom extended his gratitude to entire weaver community of Jammu while stating that the centre will go along way in benefitting the weavers community of Jammu.

Online Handloom Mark Registration training

Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu organizes workshop-cum-training for online Handloom mark registration at Udyog Bhawan, Jammu. The Director Handicrafts & Handloom Department Jammu, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Highlighted the importance of usage of Handloom Mark for value addition of Handloom products made by the weavers and differentiating the Handloom products from the machine made products. He urged the Handloom weavers to come forward and get themselves enrolled on the portal devised by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, which would make them eligible for obtaining Handloom Mark. For the purpose, the hand holding is being provided by the Weavers Service Centre, Srinagar, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The workshop-cum-training was attended by Joint Director Handloom Mr Pradeep Singh Manhas, Deputy Director Adm. Mr Gulam Rasool, Development Officer Textiles Mr. Fareed Kohli, Deputy Director(plg), Ms Megha Boagia and other senior officers/officials besides artisans/weavers community attended the event.

Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu organizes Hastkala Pardarshni 2021(Exhibition-Cum-Sale of handmade products of artisans & weavers) at JammuHaat on 22nd of September, 2021. The event will promote the Handloom andHandcrafts products manufactured by the artisans/weavers and aware about the activities running by the department for the promotion and development of the craft sector of Jammu province.

7th National Handloom Day celebration

Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu celebrates7th National Handloom Day Under the guidance of Sh. Ranjan Prakash Thakur, Principal Secretary to Govt, Industries and Commerce Department, 7th NationalHandloom Diwas celebrated today by the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom,at Udyog Bhawan, Jammu to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement and to promote thehandmade products of the weaver community. Union Territory of jammu and kashmir, Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom , Jammu is organizing DIWALI UTSAV (Exibition-cum-sale of Handmade Products of Artisans & Weavers) at Handicrafts/ Handloom Complex, Janipur, Jammu on 11th - 12th of November, 2020.
The event will promote the Handloom and Handicrafts schemes, products, manufacture by the artisans of Industrial Cooperatives.
All the Covid-19 precautions to be taken: social distancing, face mask, hand sanitizer.
The timing of the event: 11 AM to 5 PM.



Awareness Camps and Exhibitions are organised to promote various products and schemes of the handicrafts and handloom sector. Through these awareness camps, people get to know various schemes and products of handicrafts and handloom.
